Government Regulation
To explain this point let us go back in the year 2008, where Government of India (GOI) made a decision which gave birth to Sub 4 meter SUV's in India. In other words GOI cut the Excise Duty on Cars which are less than 4 meters of length, to avoid road congestions in India. The Car manufacturers took this as an opportunity so that high sales and competitive pricing can be achieved in Indian Car markets.
Mahindra TUV 300 plus and Mahindra TUV 300 are the best examples. TUV 300 Plus has length of 4400mm, while TUV 300 has length of 3995mm but the price difference is vast. TUV 300 plus starts at 11.61 lakh while TUV 300 starts at 9.84 lakh approximately.
